For Greenlandic Food and a Great Starting Point – Hotel the Red House

The renowned Hotel The Red House is situated on a hill south of Tasiilaq and provides a fantastic view of the Kong Oscar Fjord and its surrounding mountains and glaciers. It is a good starting point for excursions.

The Red House has central heating, running cold and warm water (both a small luxury in Greenland), showers and toilets on the floor, a sauna, and two lounges with a small library. On cold evenings, everybody meets at the fireplace and share their “adventures” of the day.

The excellent food at Hotel the Red House is made from local ingredients and their breakfast buffet is impressive!

We love East Greenland having kayaked there six times from Scoresbysund toSkoldungen. Yes, we have eaten musk oxen, (the best) Arctic char, narwhal, herbs, various berries and a few others. I even proposed to Inuit women whom we met on a hunting party, that they could collect the blueberries, make the jam and sell it to tourists. A friend sent me a wonderful wooden box of various teas from plants of Baffin Island. Why not from Greenland?

Thanks for your mail. Keep me posted.
